Well here we go. If this tierkloof trail on this site is the same one around George that I have now done three times (at least most of it working out at around 25km according to google earth) then I must say its beautiful. That being said I mustr also say that there is clearly a lack of interest based on the lack of maintenance on the trail or moreover it could just be a lack of marketing. Let me ad to that and say that unless some people get to hike along this great part I have, it will be no more in future. It will be hopelessly overgrown and very rough if possible at all to do. Parts that can do with signs have never had any or have disappeared not to mention things like main “stares” leading down to old dam. They are also digrading and most have just fallen away after recent rains over the past months. All this being said I have mixed feelings. When i take my dog for a 25km walk its almost predictable that him and myself will have the whole trail to ourselves where we can feel like King George sitting up there looking down on town. However, the harsh reality is that unless more people start to take interest or in act get to be aware and thereby start hiking along this tierkop trail, like i said earlier, it will be no more in future. The tierkop hut is beautiful with stunning surroundings. So what happened is I made a call many weeks ago to the most appropriate people here in George regarding the hut and without any sence of interest, let alone concern I was told that it has been closed down. I see a great potential here if only I could get hold of the right person / people . Anyway, time to click on submit.
